This book has certainly touched my heart! This author`s voice is clearly heard in this book.

THIS BOOK IS VERY INSPIRATIONAL AND VERY TIMELY

The poems remind us that we are all Godly beings with a direct connection to the all mightly God. This book is truly a "must have" and would be an asset to any household. Read it and be blessed.

remarkable
I enjoyed reading this book. The poems are very touching and heart warming.

The Life and Times Historical Reference Bible: New King James Version
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (November, 1997)
Author: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Average review score:

A True Historical Reference
The thing that lead me to buy this is that it is chronological instead of cannonical order. I didn't really see the benefits of this until I had to prepare a timeline ( w/ dates ) of the life of Jesus. This book had seperated the events of Jesus's life into an exact order ( not seperated amongst the gospels) explaining not only the signifigance of each event to the ministry of Jesus but also what we know of the symbols from history. The arrangement into Epoch's really helps in Old Testament Studies. And it is really interesting to see what is happening to the rest of the world while my favorites bible stories were taking place. One shortfall is that you can not bring this with you to church to follow scripture. It is almost impossible to follow and canonical scripture with the mixed around arangement of chronological.

Great Way to Read the Whole Bible
This version has enough notes to give you insight on the themes, without so much detail that you get bogged down in a word-by-word study. There's usually some notes or references every other page. Definitely the version I'd recommend if your goal is to read through the entire Bible, but you'd probably want another Study Bible for more insight into individual verses. I just wish that there were more maps!

Complete library in one book
Wow! Let me say that this bible is the best of its kind to be found on Amazon. The NKJV is presented in chronological order as to when the events described actually happened. This bible also includes articles and snipets throught the text describing daily customs, other events occuring at the same time in history, cultural antidotes, and timelines. This is the first bible that I have read, that actually pulled me in and kept my attention. If you don't have a bible or have never read the Word of God, then I recommend that you start here. If you are already a seasoned Christian, you find this a welcome addition to your library.

This Bible really talks to YOU
I read it everyday. It is where I get all my answers to life. Reading it is a daily blessing. I may have read a certain passage 5 times before, but it does not register or it's wisdom does not present itself until something happens in my life and I am reading along and I come across the answer right under my nose. I don't know how I missed it before, but I did, even though it has been there all along. Like IT is waiting for ME. It is at moments like this that I am struck with AWE and I realize something really BIG is going on here. I have read 3 other versions but this one is the best by far.

Brings the Bible Scriptures into todays life
We are using this edition for our weekly Bible Study. The layout of this version has been extremely helpful in aiding the reader to easily understand the Scriptures. It is written in todays language. Easy to read and grasp Biblical principles. If you really want to know God spend some time in the word. History will come alive for you. The time line assists the reader in following the order events occured. This is the best Bible I own. WWJD He'd buy the book. :-) <><

This bible's title says it best!!
I've searched through countless bibles, looking for a bible that contains thourough reference and comentary. This bible truly is a "Life APPLICATION Bible". It contains all the information that you could want as you need it. The charts, maps, and biographies are included as you read and need them. If the verses you are reading contain important geographical info, the map is right there - no more having to look for the info somewhere else in the book! The New King James Version is easy to understand and flows well in reading without losing the "poetic rhythm" of the King James Version. My husband is a pastor and is as equally impressed with it as well. This bible would make an excellent gift for anyone you love

The Lord Is My Song: A Novel (Chronicles of the King (Kansas City, Mo.), Bk. 2.)
Published in Paperback by Beacon Hill Press (January, 1996)
Author: Lynn N. Austin
Average review score:

On my third set . . .
I love this series so much that I have had to replace the entire set three times. I lend them out and they disappear!
These are by far the finest novels that Ms. Austin has written. I was drawn into the story, and I just couldn't put the books down. Ms. Austin provides Scriptural references so it is easy to see what she is basing her story on. After reading the Scriptures, elements in the story that are taken right out of the Bible are easily discerned from those that the writer may be taking an artist license with. It breathed life into these characters and made them very relevant to me.

I immediately began reading the remaining books in the series, and every one was a delight. I enthusiastically recommend the series.

Soaring above its class, this is top-drawer writing
The writing is well-done; the content is well-researched, inspirational, provoking AND entertaining!

Outstanding combination of prophecy, history, and fiction.
In this book, Austin aligns the brief Biblical account of King Hezekiah to the words of the prophets of the times along an exciting line of fiction. Prophecies, often confusing or misunderstood suddenly come alive as they are placed into everyday situations and applied to specific situations. This book creates in your mind a thrilling scene of the reality of the despair of Israel and Judah and an understanding of the great compassion Yaweh has for his Chosen People. After reading this book, you will never read prophecy the same again.

Making Waves
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (July, 1998)
Authors: Mario Vargas Llosa, Mario Vargas Llosa, and John King
Average review score:

A beautiful intellectual journey
I gained a new respect for Vargas Llosa after reading this book. I admit that I've often had trouble finishing his novels, like "The Green House" and the "The War of the End of the World." But this collection of essays is very lucid and insightful. A true joy to read.

The topics vary, and cover everything from the "bad" films of Luis Bunuel to the fading legacy of Che Guevara. In fact, there seems to be an even split here between literary and political themes. I loved, for example, reading a Latin American perspective on the works of David Mamet.

I also enjoyed "Nicaragua at a Crossroads." His description of the capital city is amusing, heartbreaking and gives you a sense that the people of Managua live in a truly surreal world. No writer of magic realism could ever imagine a stranger form of urban chaos than the one depicted in this essay.

"Making Waves" is a brilliant collection -- one that ranks with Umberto Eco's "Travels in Hyperreality" or Octavio Paz's "Labyrinth of Solitude."

Witty and intelligent random musings
Mario Vargas Llosa is often overshadowed by the more famous Spanish writers such as Garcia Marquez and Fuentes. However, he deserves his place among them and may perhaps be better. "Making Waves" displays the writer's usual quick wit and sarcasm as he muses over everything from Peru's Shining Path to Hemingway to Rastafari to Che. It's a collection of essays spanning many decades, and often they are merely his take on a particular social, political, or literary trend. The book makes for enjoyable reading in bits and pieces. A highly intelligent work!

An excellent essay collection by the great Peruvian writer
"Making Waves," by Mario Vargas Llosa, brings together more than 40 essays by this great writer from Peru. The book has been edited by John King, who also translated these essays into English. Vargas writes about politics, literature, popular culture, the writer's vocation, and other topics. His moods vary greatly throughout the book: outraged, annoyed, sentimental, exasperated, and enthralled.

The book is filled with fascinating insights and memories. It is fascinating, for example, to read how Vargas Llosa's first novel was burned and denounced. He frequently attacks Cuban leader Fidel Castro. One of the best selections, "The Story of a Massacre," tells of the tragic slaying of a group of journalists; this piece takes us into the worlds of the Shining Path guerrillas and the Iquichano Indians.

Another excellent selection is "My Son the Rastafarian," about his son's conversion to the Rastafarian religion while staying at an English school. Many of Vargas Llosa's essays explore the lives and work of other writers: William Faulkner, Doris Lessing, Julio Cortazar, Ernest Hemingway, and others. And there are a few weird surprises, like his essay on Lorena Bobbitt, the woman who cut off her husband's penis.

In an essay on Hemingway, Mario Vargas Llosa writes, "The condition of the writer is strange and paradoxical." He adds that the writer needs to "feed the beast within which enslaves him." Vargas Llosa has been feeding his own "beast" for a long time now, and the world is a richer place because of this. I highly recommend "Making Waves" to all interested in contemporary literature and politics.

Mama's Boy
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (August, 1993)
Author: Charles King
Average review score:

A most excellent read for a non-thriller reader!!!!
Charles King has the ability to keep one turning page after page no matter how horrifying the previous scene was. An accomplishment worthy of praise especially when the reader mostly reads historical romance which is a far cry from intricate murder mysteries that keep one on the edge of one's seat!

Excellent:-heart-stopping, nail biting suspense to the end!
Mama's Boy tells the story of a cop's worst nightmare: His family are the victims and his only witness is mute, on top of it all the killer is a CIA agent gone haywire, able to see the traps set for him, and avoid capture at all odds. A well rounded read, Mama's Boy sits up there with the best.

Great Book!!!
I read this a long time ago and have always remembered it. I read a LOT of thrillers and this one was one of the best. Very obscure but worth the look.

Master Key to Good Golf

Master Key To Good Golf
I found this book in a resale store and picked it up for fun.
I applied his method to my current game and took about 5 strokes from my game. As in any instructional tool, time is the true testing ground. Highly recommended reading. I am also a wrong handed golfer which makes any book a challenge.

Key to better golf
This is the best book on golf I have ever read, and I have read almost all of them. This is mostly unknown but condenses the swing into just the right explinations.

I highly recommend it if you want to see a dramitic change in your game.

Most Unlikely Golf Prospect Turned Into A Champion
This book states that with the correct training even the most unlikely prospect can be turned into championship material.

It is true!

The price you must pay to develop an excellent golf swing is to read and re-read and re-read this book; page by page, exercise by exercise.

This is an outstanding book for the persons willing to spend hours reading and applying Leslie King's method.

I highly recommend the book.

Good luck; you may be the next champion.

The Matthew Henry Study Bible: King James Version

Authors: A. Kenneth Abraham, Matthew Commentary on the Whole Bible Henry, and Kenneth Abraham
Average review score:

A blast from the past
I have enjoyed this bible very much. highly recommend. it was written when religion acutally meant something and people cared and loved each other and worshipped Jesus Christ, not because they had to,but because they understood the gospel and the beauty of it.
Matthew has written superb commentar which is a joy to read
and really helps open the scriptures.

A Great Text and Commentary.
Matthew Henry's commentary brings to life the basic and not so basic truths found in this sacred book. He also offers introductions and themes for each book. Written in the poetry of the old English(KJV), the historical stories we have come to love come to life. This is a great text for the "baby" christain and the adult as well.

Most complete study Bible I have ever used
The Matthew Henry Study Bible is an excellent integration of the well-known and long-uitlized Matthew Henry Commentary of the Whole Bible. Every idea is explained so very well. I have used this Bible for personal Bible Study, for preparing sermons, and now that I am working with Yokefellows Prison Ministry, this Bible has been a great help in answering the many, thought-provoking questions the inmates ask. I have used several other study Bibles that I probably should not name here. But not one of them comes close to being as helpful and as comprehensive as the Matthew Henry Study Bible.

The Measure of a Man
Published in Hardcover by Fortress Press (November, 1988)
Author: Martin Luther, Jr. King
Average review score:

Cross Cultural
I have used this book in Leadership Training for years. Recently I used it at Gindiri College of Theology in Nigeria. The huge 250 pound student body president said it caused him to weep, thinking about repentance. This was one of the only books graduating senior received this year, because the cost of books is such a high % of their annual income.
In the US, white High School students have returned years later to say this small book changed their thinking and understanding of who Dr. King really was. Mine too. Thanks

Eloquence
What an amazing man. King writes with such love for humanity and such desire for an improved society. Though I am not religious, I am very engaged by his discussions of faith. It is this thesis of the role of humanity and the notion of how precious life is that draw me to this book every few months for inspiration.

A road-map for lost souls
This book is a great way to get back in touch with youself as a spiritual and meaningful human being. Many of MLK Jr.'s speeches are so popularized that they often leave his other great works in their shadow. This is one of "those other" great works. Definitely worth the cost.

Melchizedek
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (01 January, 1997)
Authors: Ellen Gunderson Traylor and Ellen G. Taylor
Average review score:

Who is he?
Melchizedek is one of the most intriguing people in the Bible. I think because so little is said about him. Mrs. Traylor brings him out of the Bible and into your home. Even though this book can stand alone, I would recommend that you read it as a sequel to "Noah" (ISBN: 0970027419). One of the things that I admire about Mrs. Traylor is her research. And you can tell that she has done a lot of research on him from how well the story flows together. This book is also a great lead in to her book "Abraham" (ISBN: 0842359753). But be prepared, no matter if you read this book as a stand alone or with the others, to be entranced, entertained and to enjoy this book and to be saying, "HHMMMMM" a lot. I have read this book several times and have enjoyed it each and every time. Along with always finding new "stuff" in it. For anyone, Christian or not, I would recommend this book.

A great book!!
I have read most of the others in the series and this is one of my favorites. It fills in some of the gaps of the life of Melchizedek that are mentioned the her other book 'Jerusalem, City of God'. Starts from the time when he was born, as a grandson to Noah, and we trek through the journay of his founding of Jerusalem. Recommend it to all readers. Tremendous book!

Must read!
This book is superb! Ellen Gunderson Traylor is a very talented author who makes the story about Noah and his descendants so interesting! This was the first book I have read written by her and I found it impossible to put down. I recommend this book to all Christians and I know I will read her other works too
